Tea Party Theme evident on the UK High Street

We’ve been feeding our tea habit for quite some time at Trend Bible HQ, and have been flagging up all things tea related in our 2009 trend forecasting publications. We forecast this British Tea Party theme in our Kids Lifestyle Trends book for Spring 2010, and in our Country Escape story in the 2009 Lifestyle Trends for the Home book. We’ve seen an abundance of cultural references starting to come through this summer, (like the Mad Hatters Tea Party on the Swing Bridge in Newcastle in May 09 below and the Big Lunch campaign in July 09) and expect the high street retailers to continue to develop this theme into Autumn Winter 09, as the recession means we are likely to spend more time at home and indulge in comforting home environments.

Below are pages from our Lifestyle Trends for the Home forecast we published two years ago. Watch out for printed versions of traditional textile techniques such as cross stitch, knitting and applique, tea cosies and quirky takes on traditional tea sets, funky teapots, polka dots, love heart motifs and vintage posy florals. We forecast a palette of soft chalky pastels for Spring, but watch out for interpretations on classic ‘red white and blue’ for Autumn 09.

We love the latest home collection (below) by British high street retailer BHS, showing their interpretation of this theme- complete with polka dots, hand-rendered illustrative prints, love hearts and hand-written text.
