We’ve been spotting lots of great examples of bicycle customisation, so we thought we’d share a few images from our latest report with you. Coloured panels are a key trend, baskets and bells are also highly customisable. With an expected increase in sales of cycles in the UK for 2010 (bike sales are reportedly up 50% in 2009 due to the recession), we’re finding evidence of lots of unmet needs for cycling, particularly for women’s bikes. As more people engage in the Bike To Work scheme (the UK government gives a tax reduction of up to 45%), and with more accessible inner city cycle routes proposed in the near future, we think this is just the tip of the iceberg. Talk to us if you think you need to know how this trend will affect your brand.
We have been talking about the ‘iPod effect’ hitting areas like kids toys and kitchen gadgets, but we particularly like how white reinvents bicycles and gives new commercial appeal. Watch out for feminine touches here like lace effect laser cut plastics and rubbers being used for bike baskets.
Colour is key for bikes- particularly zesty oranges and acid yellows. We also like the rainbow effects and coloured panels which add a personalised touch…and who wouldn’t want a crochet bike seat?
